Written July 13

A lot has happened to change the optimist outlook of the previous post. Back to the bum leg incident—with working and standing shifts, my leg continued to get worse until one morning three days ago when I went to get out of bed & it would not support my weight. I have been on hiatus ever since, with it wrapped and propped in the air as I sit for hours in my recliner, smelling like Ben Gay and proving that old adage that there’s no fool like an old fool! And I do feel foolish; first of all for crashing and secondly for being so stupid as to continue working on it when it was so obviously damaged. I’ve been removed from the work schedule and at this point, I don’t know when I will be in shape to go back to the standing shifts and hard work that I must do.

A further disappointment for me has been my work assignment, which was to have been primarily working in reservations and camper check-in, a job I was really looking forward to. I was informed that’s it’s too late in the season and they are well staffed on the office side, so my duties revolve around kabin cleaning and working in the store as cashier, stocking, more cleaning, and helping Phyllis make fudge. Marc tells me to live with it and make the best of it. Chalk this one up to experience and learn from it. Apparently, not all written contracts are honored, so please take note of this if you are considering workamping.

Marc spent this Sunday on a 250 mile ride through the park and out the eastern side towards Cody, WY. He arrived back sunburned and tired but tells me he had fun. I’m still sitting with my leg up….
