April 14, 2004—Swamped in a Sea of Possessions

Since everyone knows how horrid it is to make any kind of a major move, I thought this entry might be best with little text and lots of pictures. Marc and I are dealing with a little different situation since we own a rural property and Marc had lots of “treasures” just sitting around.

Take the sea container for instance. We hired a mover with a larger trailer than we own to come and pick it up and transport it to my parent’s acreage. It was quite a show, but the guy eventually managed to get it abroad and across town to its new home.

One eyesore that has inhabited our property for years is a former electrician’s van, which Marc decided would make good temporary storage. Too big and rooted to its spot to haul off, Marc needed to pull it out and then proceed to chop it up in small enough pieces to haul to the scraper’s yard. This became a two day chore, with the cost of the rental chop saw and blades exceeding what the scrap yard paid for all the scrap. Are we having fun yet?

Next we endured the mania of the weekend garage sale. Knowing that everything that didn’t sell was more than likely going to be donated, we priced items rock bottom low. That fact didn’t seem to deter some folks from feeling that bartering is what garage sales are all about. How do you answer when someone looks at a dollar item and offers fifty cents? If I’m not insane by now, these people will drive me close to the brink! Marc couldn’t take it and decided to spend his time welding up some saw horses with leftover metal piping that no one was buying.

Stay tuned for more fun!
